Sales for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 hardware were flat in the latest Japan retail figures released this week.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 6,632 units between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2. By comparison, Nintendo Co.'s Wii sold 74,000 units and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 sold 37,000 units in the same period. The figure is a decrease from the 7,177 units sold the week prior. The Xbox 360 has held lackluster sales in Japan on hit and miss software offerings for the region. In the first half of 2007, Microsoft sold 122,565 Xbox 360 units in Japan, compared to 503,554 PS3 units and 1.78 million units of Nintendo Co.’s Wii, according to game magazine publisher Enterbrain. Microsoft in Oct. posted a Q1 profit in the Entertainment and Devices division, which includes the Xbox business. Sales held on high-than-expected Xbox 360 movement and demand for the action title Halo 3. The Xbox 360 was the No. 1 video game hardware in Sept. U.S. sales. It has shipped 13.4 million units worldwide to date.
