Capcom Co.’s Devil May Cry 4 ranked as the top-selling title based on advanced orders Fri. at Amazon Japan.

The next installment of the Devil May Cry series will be released for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3 on Jan. 31, 2008.

Strong sales for the title is a positive note for the PS3, which has seen lower-than-expected sales in the territory.

However, the PS3 achieved a closer ratio of sales compared to Nintendo Co.’s Wii in the latest Japan retail data.

The Wii outsold PS3 by 2-to-1 in Oct, compared to 6-to-1 in June. The Wii sold 110,415 units compared to the PS3 at 47,183 units in the month of Oct. in Japan, according to game magazine publisher Enterbrain.

Sony this week said that losses caused by the PS3 game console may near $1 billion, an increase from a prior estimate of $876 million.

The company last week recorded a 96.7 billion yen loss in the game division that was offset by a quarterly profit from strong electronics sales.
