Wii Fit No. 1 in advanced Japan sales
Advanced sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii Fit spurred sales of the product to the No. 1 position at Amazon Japan on Thurs. evening.
The fitness title, which include more than 40 exercises, will be sold on Dec. 1 in time for the holiday buying period in Japan.
Wii Fit is likely to further establish Wii as a mass market device that appeals to consumers of all ages. Titles like Wii Sports and Wii Play have helped to expand video game sales to women and the elderly.
Wii Fit will include a new Balance Board peripheral to allow players to perform yoga, muscle training, and aerobics exercises.
It is slated to be sold early next year in the U.S.
Nintendo last week raised profit forecast estimates on strong demand for the Wii and Nintendo DS handheld. It expects to sell 17.5 million Wii units this business year.
Nintendo has shipped 13.2 million Wii units to date worldwide.
