Driving title Project Gotham Racing 4 helped boost Xbox 360 sales in Japan nearly 400 percent in the latest retail sales data from the region.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 6,161 units between Oct. 8 and Oct. 14. The hardware sold 1,547 units one week prior.

PGR4 ranked as the No. 25 best-selling title for the week. Recent hit Halo 3 ranked at No 48 in the same period.

The Xbox 360 held a rank of No. 6 in overall hardware sales, behind Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Sony Corp.’s Playstation 3.

PGR4 is the latest entry in the Xbox racing franchise. The title was released in the U.S. on Oct. 2.

In the U.S., Halo 3 spurred Xbox 360 sales to the No. 1 hardware sales rank, outperforming Wii and PS3 in the month of Sept.
