A restock for Nintendo Co.'s Wii invaded Microsoft Corp.'s Halo 3 and Xbox 360 sales territory this week at retailer Amazon.com.
New sales for Wii blasted the hardware past the Xbox 360 Premium to rank at No. 3 on Thurs. The Xbox 360 held a previous position of No. 6. All three Halo 3 retail SKUs previously dominated the top three best-sellers at Amazon's Computer & Video Games division. The Wii restock moved the Halo 3 Legendary Edition to No. 4 from a No. 3 rank. The Standard and Limited Edition held at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Microsoft this week announced that Halo 3 generated $170 million at U.S. retail in the first 24 hours of release. The final chapter in the Halo trilogy was released on Sept. 25. Wii is the top-selling video game hardware in the nation, moving 403,600 units in the month of Aug. according to NPD Group Inc.
