Week recap: PS3 price cut; Xbox 360 sales; Wii Fit

Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 rebounded after a decline in the latest Japan retail sales data. The PS3 ranked as the No. 4 best-selling video hardware for the week.
Sony this week began offering new demos and add-ons at the Playstation Store. New content includes Stranglehold and NBA Live 08 demos, and premium add-on content for MotorStorm and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Sony this week announced that it will sell $2.9 billion worth of stock in an internal insurance unit. Analysts predict that the stock sale may help fund an 80GB PS3 price cut. Sony this week released a minor firmware update to the PS3. The update is said to address PS3 compatibility issues. Sony this week released the action flight title Lair to U.S. retail. Developed by Factor 5, the title employs motion-sensitive controls via the Sixaxis wireless controller. Enterbrain this week said that sales for the PS3 moved closer to that of Nintendo Co.'s Wii in Japan Aug. hardware sales. The PS3 was previously outsold by Wii by 6-to-1 in June. Sony this week released the new $199 Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack to U.S. retail. The SKU includes a slim Ice Silver PSP, game, UMD, and 1GB memory stick. Sales for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 were below 2,000 units in the latest Japan retail sales data. Xbox 360 sales were above only the Game Boy and GameCube platforms in the territory. Microsoft and Pontiac this week said that it will offer < A HREF="http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=4793">early play of the action title Halo 3 and a chance to win a copy of the game prior to release via a web contest entry. Halo 3 will be released on Sept. 25. Koei this week released Warriors Orochi for the Xbox 360 to U.S. retail. The crossover title features the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchise in a brand new tactical action title. Bethesda Softworks this week said that it will ship The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles for Xbox 360 to U.S retail in Oct. The expansion was previously sold as premium download content through the Xbox Live Marketplace. Warner Bros. Interactive this week released a new FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage demo to the Xbox Live Marketplace. The new demo features three playable modes.
