Nintendo Co. on Wed. announced that it will release the classic title Super Metroid to the Wii Virtual Console next week.

The Super NES title will be available on Aug. 20.

The release of Super Metroid is part of Nintendo's Month of Metroid to celebrate the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for Wii on Aug. 27.

Last week, Nintendo began offering the Metroid Prime 3 Preview download which created a new Wii Channel that contains exclusive videos of the new title.

The latest installment will conclude the Metroid Prime trilogy and utilize the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for new, intuitive controls.

Nintendo has sold more than 2.4 million Wii units in the U.S. to date.
