Sales for Nintendo Co.'s Wii held at Japan retail despite increased software performance from rival consoles in the latest data for the region.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 65,521 units between June 11 and June 17, an increase from 64,529 units the week prior. Additionally, Wii charted two titles in the top ten, including Wii Sports, and Wii Play. Wii software met with competition in the weekly tally, with software titles for both Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 ranking in the top ten. Wii software still dominated the overall chart with seven titles ranking in the top 50 best-sellers. Nintendo is ranked as the No. 1 best-selling home console in the U.S., moving 338,000 units in the month of May. The company expects to ship 11 million Wii units worldwide this business year.
