Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 kept the No. 6 position in overall hardware sales in Japan, behind most other consoles and handhelds in the region.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 3,205 units between Apr. 30 and May 6. The figure represents a current average of 2,000 – 3,000 units sold each week.

Additionally, the 360 was unable to rank any software titles in the top 50 game sales. Software for the console generated momentum last week when it charted two titles in the top 30 – Test Drive Unlimited and Rainbow Six Vegas.

The Xbox 360 remains far behind competitors in Japan, including Nintendo Co.'s Wii at more than 101,000 units sold and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 at nearly 13,000 units sold in the same period.

Hardware sales may improve in May based on pre-order sales for Forza Motorsport 2 and the RPG offering Trusty Bell. Both entered in the top 20 this week at Amazon Japan's Video Game division.
