Sales for Nintendo Co.'s Wii and Microsoft Corp.'s increased while movement for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 decreased in the latest auction data from Ebay.
Wii sales increased seven percent to rank in as the No. 1 most popular video game system on Ebay in the past two weeks. It carries an average sale price of $405.84, well above its $249 retail price.
Ranking at No. 2 is the Xbox 360 with an increase of three percent in sales. The Xbox 360 Premium carries an average sale price of $348.36, or $50 under its MSRP.
Sales for the PS3 decreased two percent in the same period to rank at No. 3. The latest Playstation console carries an average selling price of $596.77, just under its $599 retail price.
Wii has been the No. 1-selling home console in North America for three consecutive months. The motion-sensitive game console has attracted a mass audience of buyers, including those who do not normally play video games. Top titles include Wii Sports and Wii Play.
Microsoft this month released the Xbox 360 Elite, a deluxe version of the console that includes HDMI and a 120GB hard drive for $479. The new hardware SKU is expected to increase overall sales for the product line.
Sony in Apr. discontinued the 20GB PS3 SKU and will concentrate on the 60GB version. It may option an 80GB unit in the near future.
