Xbox 360 sales rank 6th in Japan behind Nintendo Co.'s Wii and Sony Corp.'s PS3 in the latest hardware sales data.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Xbox 360 sold 4,053 units from Nov. 27 – Dec. 3.

By comparison, Wii sold more than 350,000 units and the PS3 sold over 31,000 units in the same period.

Xbox 360 sales have been lower-than-expected due to insufficient software offerings and strong demand for the Nintendo DS handheld.

Microsoft Corp. hopes that new titles like the RPG Blue Dragon will help boost sales in the region.

Despite slow sales in Japan, Microsoft maintained this week that Xbox 360 shipments will exceed 10 million units by year-end on strong sales in the U.S. and Europe.
