PS3 buyers line up at Target stores nationwide

PS3 buyers this week began lining up at Target stores nationwide to nab Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3, due out on Nov. 17.
Sony will sell a 20GB version for $499 and a 60GB SKU for $599. By noon Wednesday ten plus consumers were queued in front of the Target store in Diamond Bar, CA. Several customers set up tables for card games and most consumers were prepared with camping chairs to make the wait more bearable. The first consumer in line has heard conflicting reports as to how many units the Diamond Bar store will receive. A Target employee in the electronics section gave Punch Jump an estimate of 13 units. At the Rancho Santa Margarita, CA branch, a sign helped denote the start of the PS3 line and disclaimed that due to limited inventory, it will distribute 1 ticket per guest prior to opening. Select Target stores contacted by Punch Jump said that they would not allow queues to form prior to Thurs. evening and that stores have turned away customers ready to camp out. The PS3 will be one of the hardest products to find this holiday season. Sony said in Sept. that it would deliver 400,000 units to the U.S. for launch. However, pre-order cutbacks at GameStop. Corp. and revised analyst estimates place the allocation far lower. Meanwhile, similar lines for the PS3 have formed at Best Buy locations nationwide. The No. 1 electronics retailer will carry a minimum of 26 units per store.
