Amazon.com on Sat. began resuming pre-orders for Microsoft's Xbox 360 HD DVD Player, due out on Nov. 7.

Amazon previously sold out of its inital allocation of the product.

The online retailer disclaims that it has secured an extra allocation of the $199 external option and that supplies remain limited.

The Xbox 360 HD DVD Player will allow Xbox 360 owners to watch new high-definition format HD DVD flicks in up to 1080p resolution.

The peripheral will help the machine compete against Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3, which will feature a high-definition Blu-ray disc format drive built-in.

Microsoft has sold 6 million Xbox 360 units worldwide to date. It expects to sell 10 million consoles by the end of 2006.
