Japan website Nihon Keizai Shimbun on Monday reported that Sony will ship only 80,000 Playstation 3 units to Japan on Nov. 11 due to a delay in part production.
Sony previously said that it would deliver 100,000 units to the territory on Nov. 11.
In Sept., Sony said it would cut Japan and U.S. launch quantities to 500,000 from 1 million units. The U.S. is expected to receive 400,000 units when it drops to retail on Nov. 17.
A delay would mean loss in sales for the next Playstation machine, which will include the advanced Cell processor and Blu-ray disc drive.
Sony last week announced a 94% drop in profit, partly due to the a price cut for the 20GB PS3. The company lowered the price of the 20GB SKU to $430 U.S. due to strong competition from Microsoft and Nintendo.
Microsoft will debut a Xbox 360 Core System to Japan on Nov. 2 for $256 U.S. Meanwhile, Nintendo will drop Wii to Japan on Dec. 2 for $212 U.S.
