Amazon Japan customers are more interested in Wii from Nintendo than Sony's Playstation 3 according to the retailer's latest research data.

Product registration data collected on July 26 placed Wii in the No. 1 position, followed by the 60GB version of the PS3, and the 20GB version of the PS3.

Amazon Japan is allowing customers to pre-order an array of software for both the Wii and PS3. The U.S. division is currently allowing pre-orders for select PS3 and Wii titles.

Wii is an innovative new console to be released in the fourth quarter for under $250. The system will employ a remote controller to allow players to perform gestures to control on-screen action.

The PS3 is the successor to the current market leader, the Playstation 2. The PS3 will include an advanced multi-core Cell processor and Blu-ray disc for HD playback. It will drop to retail on Nov. 17 for $499 and $599.
