Microsoft Corp. will double orders for Xbox 360 chips from Taiwan suppliers in the second quarter to June from the first quarter, Forbes reported on Tuesday.
Xbox 360 suppliers in Taiwan include Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd, United Microelectronics Corp., Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc, Silicon Integrated Systems Corp., and Siliconware Precision Industries Co Ltd.
The software giant is expected to ship nearly 3M Xbox 360 units in the second quarter, or double the shipments from the first quarter, according to industry sources.
Microsoft in late March said that Xbox 360 shipments would double or triple. A check from brick and mortar and online retail indicates that there are plenty of Xbox 360 consoles for customers this week.
The Xbox successor will reach Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa within 18 months, in what is said to be a crucial part in its battle against Sony's PS3 console.
