The Playstation 3 was an elusive beast at Sony's Destination Playstation retailer event in Miami, Florida this week.

According to attendees Sony did not use the event to disclose hard details about the PS3's launch or price.

Retailers, which are said to have signed non-disclosure agreements, may have to wait until the next Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles this May where Sony is expected to divulge its final plans for the console's release.

Sony has kept tight-lipped on the PS3 at two industry events this year, including at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and at a recent Taipei Game Show.

It's silence had led to numerous reports that the next Playstation would be unable to meet a launch in 2006 and could cost as much as $800 to manufacture.

A Sony spokesperson said that it is still waiting for finalization of Blu-ray disc and audio/video input specifications.

The electronics giant may also feel less pressure to meet its original spring deadline due to Microsoft's inability to produce enough Xbox 360 units to start a substantial lead in the next console wars.
