Sony's Playstation 3 console may drop to the U.S. and Japan this Sept., Next-Generation reported on Wednesday.

The industry news source sites developer sources who claim that the Playstation is scheduled to see a Sept. launch. Next-Generation believes that the box will be released in Japan and the U.S. in the same period.

Sony previously held a firm commitment to its spring 2006 release date, but recent reports suggest that the hardware and software are not ready for any territory.

Stateside, the software giant failed to release any new details on the hardware at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Analysts previously speculated that the PS3 would see a summer release in Japan followed by a Nov. release in the U.S.

The company plans to showcase the PS3 next at the Taipei Game Show on Feb. 16.
