Nintendo announced on Wednesday that it will offer an internet browser and a TV Tuner for its Nintendo DS handheld in Japan.
The internet browser software will be sold in cartridge form and is developed by Opera software.
The browser will allow owners to view webpages on the handhelds two vertical screens or opt to have the top screen display a magnified portion of the screen.
The TV tuner, in which the prototype plugged in the Nintendo DS cartridge slot, does not yet have a release date.
Nintendo will expand its software lineup of non-traditional offerings, including point-and-speak translation software, caligraphy training software, and cook book software.
The handheld will also see more traditional software releases, including Square Enix's Children of Mana on Mar. 2, Namco's Xenosaga I and II on Mar. 30, Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. in May, and Mario Basket, a basketball game.
The Nintendo DS has sold over 14.4M units to date worldwide. The company will drop its offbeat Brain Training simulations to the U.S. starting in April.
