A Wal-Mart location in Southern California jumped the gun and sold its allocation of Xbox 360 consoles prior to the discount chain's New Year's Day circular.

The Pomona, CA location holds a disclaimer in the electronics division:

"The Microsoft Xbox 360 video game systems featured in our January 1st advertising circular are temporarily out of stock at this location.

This product is in short supply from the manufacturer, and our entire inventory was temporarily sold prior to the circulation date."

The corporate statement may have been sent to any Wal-Mart locations that sold its circular allocation in advance of the Jan. 1st circular.

Electronics retailer Best Buy advertised the Xbox 360 in its Sunday circular several weeks prior to cause a second wave of early birds to queue in line for the in-demand console.

Retailers and e-tailers remain sold out of the Xbox 360 in most locations.
