The Nintendo DS may be outselling the PSP in worldwide sales, however Sony's handheld entertainment system is attracting more customers at Amazon.com.
The PSP Value Pack is the #5 best-selling product at Amazon's Computer and Video Games section, while the Nintendo DS Mario Kart bundle comes in at #10 on the charts. Sony's handheld system retails for $249, or $100 more than the Nintendo DS Mario Kart bundle. However, Nintendo is enjoying higher overall global sales. The company on Dec. 8 said that the Nintendo DS has sold six million units to date in the U.S. and Japan combined, compared to 4.26 million units for the PSP. Nintendo also dominates Amazon's Computer and Video Games sales charts with five products in the top ten. At #1 is Mario Party 7 for the Nintendo GameCube, #4 Mario Kart DS, #7 Nintendogs – Labrador Retriever, and #9 the Game Boy Advance SP. Nintendo DS continues to outsell every other console in Japan on a string of hit games, including Nintendogs, Brain Training for Adults, and the company's most recent release, Animal Crossing: Wild World. Sales are at a more even pace in the U.S. where Sony's PSP has become a popular multimedia device for games and UMD movies. Nintendo currently owns 72% of the handheld market with the Nintendo DS and Game Boy brand, while Sony carries 28% with the PSP.
