Time Magazine has named the Nintendo Revolution as one of five new things that will blow your mind. Revolution is a code-name for Nintendo's next-generation system due out in 2006.

In the feature, Time revisits Nintendo's contribution to the video game controller starting with the Nintendo Entertainment System's d-pad, the analog stick, and vibration.

Time adds that Nintendo hopes to shake things up with a wireless controller that will allow players to apply real-world physical experience to games.

"The one-handed grip has motion and position sensors, so if you're playing a Ping-Pong game, you just flick the controller like a paddle. Or, to shoot, take aim and tap a button."

Nintendo unveiled the Revolution controller at a press event during the Tokyo Game Show 2005. At the event, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata stressed the importance to expand the gaming audience to people intimidated by today's controllers.

The company purposely crafted the one-handed controller to resemble a TV remote in order to resonate with the ease-of-use of a standard remote controller.
