Nintendo Co. Ltd. this week said the Nintendo Switch hardware ranked No. 1 in Dec. 2017 hardware sales at U.S. retail.

Nintendo sold 1.5 million Nintendo Switch units in the five-week reporting period of Dec. in data from NPD Group Inc.

The hardware, which launched in Mar. 2017, has sold 4.8 million units to date to become the fastest-selling hoe console in U.S. history.

Nintendo recorded a $458.4 million profit in the second quarter due to strong sales for the Nintendo Switch.

Between Apr. to Sept. 2017, the company recorded net sales of $3.29 billion and operating income of $351 million.

To date, the Nintendo Switch has shipped 3.11M units in the U.S., 1.95M units in Japan and 2.56M units in other territories.

Nintendo increased the Switch shipment forecast to 14 million units from 10 million units through Mar. 2018. In addition, the Switch software shipment forecast increased to 50 million units from 35 million units.
