Nintendo Co. Ltd. this week said the Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling video game system in U.S. history.
The hardware, launched Mar. 3, has sold more than 4.8 million units in the U.S. in the first 10 months of sale based on internal sales figures.
The figure surpasses sales for the Wii console, which sold more than 4 million in the same timeframe.
Nintendo recorded a $458.4 million profit in the second quarter due to strong sales for the Nintendo Switch.
Between Apr. to Sept. 2017, the company recorded net sales of $3.29 billion and operating income of $351 million.
To date, the Nintendo Switch has shipped 3.11M units in the U.S., 1.95M units in Japan and 2.56M units in other territories.
Nintendo increased the Switch shipment forecast to 14 million units from 10 million units through Mar. 2018. In addition, the Switch software shipment forecast increased to 50 million units from 35 million units.
