Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 ranked as the No. 1 hardware in Japan in the latest data from the region.
Media Create Co. this month reported the PS4 sold 40,671 units between Jan. 23 and Jan. 29 to rank No. 1 in overall hardware sales.
The sales figure includes 9,893 PS4 Pro units sold in the same period.
The hardware sold 33,376 units the week prior.
Resident Evil 7 ranked as the No. 1 software for the week selling 187,306 units for the week.
In Q3 2017, the Game and Network Services division held $547 million in sales, a 5.2 percent increase from the year prior.
The company cited an increase of PS4 software sales and sales of the Playstation VR in the third quarter.
The PS4 sold 9.8 million units in the period.
Sony this week previewed the Playstation 4 System Software Update 4.50.
Software Update 4.50 will include external hard drive support for up to 8TB drives.
In addition, the update will add Custom Wallpapers, Quick Menu Refresh, Simplified Notification List, Post to Activity Feed, and Playstation VR 3D Blu-ray disc functionality.
Sony this week restocked the Playstation VR Launch Bundle at U.S. retail.
The bundle includes the Playstation VR headset, PS VR cables, Stereo Headphones, Playstation VR Demo Disc, Playstation Camera, 2 Playstation Move Controllers, and the Playstation VR Worlds disc at $499.99.
Sony this week previewed free Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and PS Vita titles for Playstation Plus members to the Playstation Network division for Jan. 2017.
PS Plus titles include LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS4), Not A Hero (PS4), Starwhal (PS3), Anna – Extended Edition (PS3), Ninja Senki DX (PS Vita), and TorqueL (PS Vita).
The titles will be available Feb. 7.
Sony this week released the Platinum Wireless Headset for the Playstation 4.
The headset includes 7.1 virtual surround sound, 3D audio technology and hidden noise-canceling microphones.
Titles to support 3D audio include Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, MLB The Show 17, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and Days Gone.

The title is a high-definition remaster of the classic RPG and will include reconstructed battle design and a revamped job system.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week released the Sabotage DLC for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare for the Playstation 4.
The Sabotage DLC includes four new multiplayer maps and Rave in the Redwoods Zombies co-op DLC.

Resident Evil 7 ranked as the No. 49 best-selling software for the week.
In Q2, Xbox gaming revenue declined three percent due to lower Xbox console pricing and sales volume. Software and services revenue increased 18 percent.
Microsoft this week said it will release new Xbox One Wireless Controllers to retail Feb. 7.
New Xbox One controllers include Ocean Shadow and Winter Forces SKUs.

Hitman: The Complete First Season includes all Season One locations and episodes.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition ranked as the No. 23 software for the week.
Nintendo held a $586 million profit in the third quarter.
The Wii U sold 200,000 hardware units and 4.18 million software units in the same period.
