Nintendo Co. Ltd. this week said it will begin pre-order sales for the Nintendo Switch Jan. 13 at the Nintendo Store in New York City.
The company said it will pre-sell a limited quantity of the new console Fri. at 9AM EST while supplies last.
The Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 will be streamed live Jan 12 at 8PM PST and include the launch date, price, and games currently in development.
In addition, the company will hold public events in the U.S. and Europe to preview Nintendo Switch prior to release.
At home the Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects to a standard television. When lifted from the dock the Nintendo Switch becomes a portable handheld device with a high-definition screen.
The hardware utilizes a custom Tegra processor from Nvidia Corp, which created custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries, and new gaming APIs.
Portable Joy-Con controllers can attach and detach from the Nintendo Switch. The Joy-Con Grip attaches both sides to the grip to resemble a home console controller. Each Joy-Con includes an analog stick and a four-button array.
Outside the home Joy-Con controllers can be used together for single-player games or can each be used separately for two-player local games. A Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with traditional format analog sticks and buttons will be sold separately.
Game titles will utilize flash memory card storage. Demonstrated titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mario Kart, Mario, and NBA 2K17.
The hardware will be sold Mar. 2017.
