Media Create Co. this week said Nintendo Co. Ltd.’s Splatoon for the Wii U ranked in the top 15 software sales in Japan.
The title sold 15,860 units between Dec. 19 and Dec. 25 to rank as the No. 15 software in the period.
Splatoon is a multiplayer competitive action game in which users take a squad of squids to spray ink to cover territory.
After ink is sprayed, a users can dive through their own ink to reach another area quickly.
The final game includes 4-vs.4 online multiplayer functionality, single-player mode, and free post-launch download content.
Turf War, the main online mode, is a four vs. four team-based multiplayer mode in which each user will gain level and earn in-game currency to customize their player.
Ranked Battle is a multiplayer mode that will keep track of each user’s online ranking. Splat Zones is a Ranked Battle mode that allows users to control territory of specific areas with ink blasts. Users must achieve level 10 in Turf War in order to access Splat Zones.
Finally, the single-player mode allows users to explore the underground base of the enemy Octarians in specific single-player levels.
