Sony Corp. this week said the Playstation 4 has sold 50 million units in global markets.

The sales figure is as of Dec. 6, 2016.

The company said the hardware held the best Black Friday sales in the history of the platform, which included sales of the new Playstation 4 Pro.

In Q1 2016, the Game and Network Services division, which includes the Playstation business, held an operating income of $427 million.

The PS4 sold 3.5 million units in the same period.

Sony in Nov. began sale of the Playstation 4 Pro. It includes 4K and HDR functionality to improve graphics fidelity and utilize an 8-core AMD Jaguar CPU, GPU at 4.20 TFLOPS, 8GB GDDR5 RAM, and 1TB hard drive. Current PS4 titles are forward compatible with the PS4 Pro.
