Nintendo Co. Ltd. this week recorded an operating loss in the second quarter.

The company said it held a $7.7 million operating loss between July and Sept. 2016.

The Nintendo 3DS sold 2.71 million units in the period, an increase of 19 percent from the year prior. The company credited the success of Pokémon GO for increased 3DS demand.

The Wii U sold 560,000 units in the same period. It will ship 800,000 units in the fiscal year.

Nintendo in Mar. 2017 will sell the Nintendo Switch, a new home console that offers both home and mobile game options.

At home the Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects to a standard television. When lifted from the dock the Nintendo Switch becomes a portable handheld device with a high-definition screen.
