Rockstar Games this week said Red Dead Redemption for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 will be backwards compatible with the Xbox One July 8.

The backwards compatibility function allows Xbox One owners to utilize their Xbox 360 retail discs to download the software to their Xbox One and play natively with new Xbox One functionality.

Red Dead Redemption is a third-person action title that includes open-world gameplay.

The Game of the Year Edition includes Free Roam, Co-Op, online Poker and Liar’s Dice, Deathmatch and Undead Overrun survival mode.
