Walt Disney Co. this week said it will exit the video game console publishing business and cancel the Disney Infinity franchise due to a decline in demand.
This week, the company recorded a $147 million charge against the game business division. It will exit the game game console publishing business and subsequently license characters to other companies to produce console game software.
It will continue to games for mobile devices.
In Nov. 2015, it released the Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Co.’s Wii U.
The Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Pack includes the Disney Infinity 3.0 Game, Disney Infinity 3.0 Base, Star Wars Twlight of the Republic Play Set, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoko Tana figures, and new Toy Box 3.0 at $64.99.
Additional Play Sets include Rise Against the Empire and a new Play Set Based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Finally, Toy Box Expansion Games allow all owners to utilize all Disney Infinity 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 together.
