Nintendo Co. Ltd. this week recorded a $216 million loss in the fourth quarter between Jan. and Mar. 2016.
Quarterly sales declined 26 percent to $708 million.
In the fiscal year, Wii U sold 3.26 million units, down from 3.38 million the year prior. The hardware has sold 12.8 million units to date.
The company said it will cease production of the Wii U by 2018.
The Nintendo 3DS sold 6.79 million units, down from 8.73 million the prior fiscal year.
