Microsoft Corp. this week said it will stop the manufacture of Xbox 360 consoles.

The company said it will continue sale of existing inventory and Xbox Live server support will remain active for Xbox 360 owners.

The 10-year-old console was released Nov. 22, 2005 and has sold 84 million units worldwide.

In 2009, Microsoft extended the Xbox 360 to three years following hardware malfunction that caused the console to overheat.

The Xbox 360 S model was released in 2010 and E model was released in 2013.
