Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 has sold nine million units in the U.S. in new data by NPD Group Inc.

This firm this week reported the PS4 has sold nine million units at U.S. retail to date. It began sale Nov. 2013.

In addition, the PS4 ranked No. 1 hardware in U.S. Sept. retail data.

The PS4 has reached 23.5 million units in global markets in first quarter 2015 figures.

The Sony Game and Network Services division, which includes the Playstation business, held an operating income of $160 million, an increase from $121 million the year prior.

The company cited cost-reductions to the PS4 hardware, and an increase in PS4 software and peripheral sales.
