Nintendo Co. Ltd. this week said company president Satoru Iwata died July 11 due to a bile duct growth.
Iwata was appointed Director at Nintendo in 2000 and president in 2002. He most recently served as CEO of Nintendo of America Inc.
Genyo Takeda, Representative Director and Senior Managing Director, and Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Senior Managing Director, remain at the company.
Iwata spearheaded growth at Nintendo with the introduction of the Wii console, which began sale in 2006 and sold more than 100 million units worldwide.
He recently announced NX, the code-name for the company’s next console and a partnership with DeNA to develop mobile games.
For the fourth quarter, Nintendo held revenue of $350 million and an operating profit of $250 million.
