Square Enix Holdings Co. this week demonstrated Mighty No. 9 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4, Playstation 3, PS Vita, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Co.’s Wii U and the PC at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The preview build included the first stage with an introduction to attack options like the standard shoot attack and the new Axceleration function to dash into enemies and acquire a short bonus power-up. The function can also be used to evade enemies.
Controls were pitch perfect as Beck shot and jumped through varied enemy attack fire. Enemies were constructed with a clever whimsy with various shot patterns and weaponry.
The graphics engine was solid at 60 frames-per-second. The levels and enemies were colorful and well animated throughout.
Mighty No. 9, to be sold Sept. 15, is a 2D side-scrolling action title developed by Comcept and Intl Creates and produced by Keiji Inafune.
The title includes 12 stages, Single-Player Challenge Mode, Boss Rush Mode, 2-Player Online Race Battle, 2-Player Online Co-op Challenge Mode, and standard and 8-bit music options.
