Nintendo Co. this week released a new firmware update to the Nintendo 3DS hardware.

Firmware 5.3.0-23 is said to offer further improvements to overall system stability and minor adjustments to enhance the user experience.

In the third quarter, Nintendo held an operating income of $270 million on revenue of $2.3 billion.

The Nintendo 3DS sold 4.99 million units in the third quarter, down from 7.76 million units the year prior.

The handheld has shipped 50 million units to date in global territories.
