Nintendo Co. this week said sales for the Wii U hardware increased 29 percent in the month of Dec. at U.S. retail.
The company said the hardware held a 29 percent increase in sales and a 75 percent increase in software sales from 2013.
Top titles for the year included Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Mario Kart 8 has sold 1.7 million physical and digital units, while Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has sold 1.3 million physical and digital units in 2014.
Between July and Sept., Nintendo reported a net profit of $224 million compared to a $74 million loss one year prior.
The Wii U sold 610,000 units in the period, more than double the 300,000 units sold one year earlier.
The console has sold 7.29 million units to date worldwide.
The company plans to sell 3.6 million Wii U consoles this fiscal year.
