Sony Corp. this week previewed The Order: 1886 for the Playstation 4 at the International CES in Las Vegas, NV.
The floor demo featured an action-based sequence in which the user had to engage in a shootout between two levels in a lobby area.
The controls were solid with intuitive aim controls and a third-person shoulder view. In addition, cover tactics were fluid. With a press of the circle button, the character will stick to a nearby surface to subsequently aim and fire. Finally, users can quick-access other weaponry like pistols and grenades with the directional pad.
Bullets were able to destroy in-room objects, but had limitations in the fenced railing were an enemy AI hid.
Enemy AI was mostly strategic as they ran, shot, hid, and moved from cover to cover. Many soldiers opted to use blind fire in order to hide their bodies and remain difficult to target.
The graphics engine was solid at 30 frames-per-second. Textures, character, and environmental detail were rich and well-constructed.
The Order: 1886 is a single-player third-person action adventure with shooting mechanics and is set in London at the end of the 19th century.
The final game will include a linear story-based mode.
An initial preview featured a period setting in combination with sci-fi weapons to take down enemy demons.
