Sony Corp. this week said it will offer an extended Playstation Plus membership to users following an attack on the Playstation Network that limited service use.

The company said PS Plus members with an active membership or free trial on Dec. 25 will receive a five day extension.

In addition, all users will receive a 10 percent discount off a one-time purchase at the Playstation Store at a to be determined date.

On Dec. 25, the Playstation Network incurred an outage that prevented users from logging into the service.

The company said PSN was attacked with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity.

Sony said it sold 3.5 million Playstation 4 and Playstation 3 hardware units combined in the Q1 2014.

The Games and Network Services division held a profit of $41.8 million in the quarter.
