Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 ranked as the No. 4 hardware in Japan in the latest data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported the PS4 sold 30,951 units between Dec. 15 and Dec. 21 to rank No. 4 in overall hardware sales.

It sold 68,041 units the week prior.

The PS3 sold 7,803 units to rank at No. 5 in the same period.

Grand Theft Auto V ranked as the No. 14 software for the week.

Sony this week said it is working to restore the Playstation Network after an outage that began Dec. 25.

The company said it is working to restore services for all platforms, which include the Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and PS Vita.

In addition, it acknowledged that engineers were working to resolve network issues, including user login.

On Dec. 25, the Playstation Network incurred an outage that prevented users from logging into the service.

Sony and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. this week said the Playstation Now streaming service will be available on select Samsung Smart TVs in the first half of 2015.

The service will launch as an application that can be accessed via Samsung’s Smart Hub. The app will support all service functionality including in-game trophies, play games online, and save game progress in the cloud.

Playstation Now is a cloud-based streaming gaming service that will allow users to access a back catalog of Playstation 3 titles on the Playstation 4, Playstation 3, PS Vita, and the Playstation TV.

Sony this week began pre-order sales for Capcom Co.’s Resident Evil for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 and Playstation 3.

This week, customers can pre-purchase the Resident Evil PS4 with PS3 Cross Buy at $19.99, or the PS3 SKU with PS4 Cross-Buy at $19.99.

The digital release, to be sold in early 2015, will include the 2002 Resident Evil remake previously released to Nintendo Co.’s GameCube, with updated textures and 1080p high-definition graphics on next-generation consoles.

Capcom Co. this week previewed Raid Mode for Resident Evil Revelations 2.

Raid Mode is a shoot-and-loot action mode in which users battle through a horde of enemies and collect new weapons.

Raid Mode in Resident Evil Revelations 2 will include new treasure chests and local two-player split-screen functionality.

Sony this week released the Silent Night Trailer for The Order: 1886 for the Playstation 4.

The trailer features in-game action and cinematics from the final game.

The Order: 1886 is a single-player third-person action adventure with shooting mechanics and is set in London at the end of the 19th century.

The final game will include a linear story-based mode.

Aksys Games this week released Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Limited Edition SKU to Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 and Playstation 3.

The Limited Edition SKU includes a limited edition outer box, Official Soundtrack, Character Book and Sol Badguy Keychain at $79.99.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is a 2D fighting title that will include enhanced fighting mechanics, an expanded Roman Cancel, and new characters.

Bandai Namco Games America Inc. this week said it will release One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4, Playstation 3, PS Vita, and the PC in summer 2015.

The title, in development with Koei Tecmo Games, combines trademark Dynasty Warriors action with characters from the One Piece franchise.

The final game will include an original story key members of the Straw Hat crew, and encounter the evil Donquixote Doflamingo.

Sales for the Playstation Vita ranked as the No. 3 video game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 33,797 units between Dec. 15 and Dec. 21 to rank as the No. 3 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 25,013 units the week prior.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One hardware ranked as the No. 6 hardware at launch in Japan.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox One sold 893 units between Dec. 15 to Dec. 21 rank No. 6 in overall sales.

It sold 724 units the week prior.

The Xbox Live service for the Xbox One held a limited status in key components following an outage that began Dec. 25.

Fri., the service held limited service in Social and Gaming and Purchase and Content Usage divisions.

The company said some users may experience issues signing into Xbox Live.

Microsoft this week released the Mystery of the Mooil Rig! DLC to Sunset Overdrive for the Xbox One.

The DLC includes new story missions, two weapons, two Amps, one trap, two vanity items, and new quests, challenges, Chaos Squad missions, a Night Defense base and a new boss.

It sells at $9.99.

Microsoft this week previewed new titles for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 through the Games with Gold program for Xbox Live Gold members.

D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die for Xbox One will be available to download between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31. MX vs. ATV Alive for Xbox 360 will be available between Jan. 1 and Jan. 15.

Finally, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for the Xbox 360 will be available between Jan. 16 to Jan. 31.

343 Studios this week apologized for the problematic release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One.

In an article released to Halo Waypoint/A>, Bonnie Ross, head of 343 Industries, noted the bugs and error-prone matchmaking functionality and apologized to consumers.

As a result, consumers who have played Halo: The Master Chief Collection between Nov. 11 and Dec. 19 will receive 1-Month of Xbox Live Gold, an exclusive in-game nameplate and avatar, Relic multiplayer map for Halo 2: Anniversary, and the campaign of Halo 3: ODST remastered in 1080p and 60 frames-per-second at no cost.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked second in Japan in the latest sales data for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 38,314 units between Dec. 15 and Dec. 21 to rank at No. 2 in overall sales.

It sold 27,334 units the week prior.

Super Smash Bros for Wii U ranked as the No. 4 best-selling software for the week. It has sold 385,460 units in the region to date.

Nintendo this week released Duck Hunt to the Wii U Virtual Console division.

The NES classic is compatible with the Wii Remote controller to shoot ducks and clay targets with a hunting dog.

The Nintendo 3DS ranked as the No. 1 hardware in Japan in the latest sales data from the territory.

Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 196,351 units between Dec. 15 and Dec. 21 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 157,103 units the week prior.

Yo-Kai Watch 2 ranked as the No. 1 software for the week. It has sold 1.77M units since launch. Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire ranked as the No. 2 software for the week. The titles have sold 2.11 million units in the region to date.

Sega Corp. this week released the Army Management Trailer for Total War: Attila for the PC.

The trailer previews army management including control over generals and military forces in the campaign.

Total War: Attila, to be sold Feb. 17, 2015, is set in 395 AD amid disease, climate change, and war at the dawn of the Dark Ages.
