Nintendo Co. this week said amiibo functionality for Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8 will not require a data save to the figure itself.
The company said Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8 amiibo functionality will only require a tap to the Wii U GamePad to unlock extra in-game items.
In Mario Kart 8, amiibo figures will unlock new racing suits for Mii characters.
Each amiibo figure hold save data for one game title.
amiibo is a new line of NFC-enabled toy figures that can transfer the character and respective data to the Wii U GamePad.
Wave 1 includes Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Samus, Yoshi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, Fox, and Villager.
Wave 2 characters include Luigi, Zelda, Little Mac, Captain Falco, Pit, and Diddy Kong.
Wave 3 characters include Mega Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Toon Link, Ike, Sheik, Bowser, King Dedede, Shulk, Lucario, Meta Knight, Rosalina and Luma.
Super Smash Bros. Wii U will be the inaugural title for the new product line. Future compatible titles include Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Wooly World.
Both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS SKU include online multiplayer functionality to battle users on their respective platforms. Each SKU includes a distinct set of battle arenas.
