Activision Blizzard Inc.’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare to Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4, Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One, and the PC is a strong assault that injects new maneuverability and mechanics to the single-player campaign and multiplayer component.
In the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare single-player campaign a private military corporation called Atlus is a global security firm that subsequently becomes a global threat under the leadership of Jonathan Irons (Kevin Spacey).
Future soldiers are outfitted in exoskeletons that introduce new tactical abilities including boost jumps, grappling and covert cloaking to the franchise. In addition, users can deploy new threat grenades to outline all enemy soldiers, EMP grenades to kill drones, and smart grenades that target enemies toward reticle placement. The new abilities are well-integrated, realistically executed, and provide extra dexterity and tactics to battles.
While prior entries featured encounters that rained bullets toward the player, Advanced Warfare is more methodical to relay stop-and-pop tactics as opposed to run-and-gun. Enemy AI is solid and soldiers defend themselves adequately with their own advanced artillery. In addition, new threats like drones and exo suit enemies inject new versatility compared to the standard soldier.
The tactical warfare extends itself to the multiplayer component. New boost dodge and boost jump are critical to avoid damage and provide dexterity in new multi-tiered multiplayer maps. Time-to-kill ranges about three seconds, a large improvement from the millisecond bullet graze kills in prior installments.
The Exo Survival Co-op Mode is a wave-based simulation for up to four-players that is serviceable but weak in depth.
The graphics engine is excellent at 60 frames-per-second. The character models excel with photo-realistic detail and environments are well-constructed set pieces built for destruction.
The sound engine is overhauled from prior entries and features a new clarity and heaviness to emphasize each gun shot and explosion.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a solid boost that offers new tactical shooting and maneuverability to the franchise in both the single-player campaign and multiplayer component. Enjoy the new equipment, because this advanced gear has legs.
