Nintendo Co. this week recorded a net profit in the second quarter amid stronger sales of the Wii U console.
Between July and Sept., the company reported a net profit of $224 million compared to a $74 million loss one year prior.
The Wii U sold 610,000 units in the period, more than double the 300,000 units sold one year earlier.
The console has sold 7.29 million units to date worldwide.
The company plans to sell 3.6 million Wii U consoles this fiscal year.
Nintendo 3DS sales fell in the quarter to 1.27 million units from 2.49 million units the year prior.
The company plans to sell 12 million Nintendo 3DS handhelds this fiscal year.
