Sales for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 ranked as the No. 5 hardware in Japan in the latest data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported the PS4 sold 5,581 units between July 21 to July 27 to rank No. 4 in overall hardware sales.

It sold 6,456 units at launch the week prior.

The hardware ranked one title in the top 20, FIFA 14 at No. 18.

The PS3 sold 7,175 units to rank at No. 4 in the same period.

Sony this week said it sold 3.5 million Playstation 4 and Playstation 3 hardware units combined in the first quarter.

The company sold 1.1 million PS4 and PS3 units combined in the same period one year prior.

The PS Vita, PSP, and Playstation TV sold 750,000 units combined in the same period.

The Games and Network Services division held a profit of $41.8 million in the quarter.

The company posted a $261 million profit in the fiscal quarter ending June 30.

Sony this week released System Software Update v1.75 for the Playstation 4.

The update adds 3D Blu-ray disc support to the hardware.

Sony this week launched the Playstation Now Open Beta for the Playstation 4.

The Playstation Now PS4 Open Beta allows customers the option to play select Playstation 3 titles via data streaming.

Users can rent titles for seven, 30, or 90 days, in addition to a shorter four-hour duration from $2.99 to $19.99.

Beta launch titles include Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, God of War Ascension and Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Retailer Amazon.com Inc. this week began pre-order sales for the Playstation 4 Dualshock 4 Glacier White, Urban Camouflage and Wave Blue Controller SKUs.

The Glacier White, to be sold Sept. 9, Urban Camouflage, to be sold Sept. 30, and Wave Blue Controller, to be sold Aug. 19, carry a pre-order price of $59.99 each.

Sony this week released The Last of Us Remastered for the Playstation 4 to U.S. retail.<>

The title includes full 1080p resolution, upgraded character models, improved shadows and lighting. In addition, it will include the Abandoned Territories Map Pack, Reclaimed Territories Map Pack, and The Last of Us: Left Behind Single Player campaign.

Sony this week said customers who pre-order LittleBigPlanet 3 to the Playstation 4 will receive the Dragon Age Costume Pack and 4 The Players Costume Pack.

The Dragon Age Costume Pack will include a range of costumes based on EA Inc.’s Dragon Age franchise.

The 4 The Players Costume Pack will include costumes based on favorite Playstation characters.

In addition, Amazon.com pre-order customers will receive the Playstation Favorites Costume Pack and a 6-inch Plush Sackboy Toy.

The Playstation Vita ranked as the No. 2 video game hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month said the PS Vita sold 23,642 units between July 21 and July 27 to rank as the No. 2 hardware for the week.

By comparison, the hardware sold 29,601 units the week prior.

The hardware ranked three titles in the top 10, Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines at No. 4, Tokyo Shinseiroku: Operation Abyss at No. 5, and Corpse Party: Blood Drive at No. 6

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 489 units to rank at No. 6 in the same period.

Sales for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 hardware ranked No. 7 units in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Xbox 360 sold 122 units between July 21 to July 27 to rank No. 7 in overall sales.

By comparison, the hardware sold 129 units the week prior.

Microsoft this week said it will sell the Xbox One console in China Sept. 23.

The hardware will sell at ¥3,699 RMB without Kinect and at ¥4,299 RMB with Kinect.

First-party launch titles include Forza Motorsport 5: Racing Game of the Year, Kinect Sports Rivals, Powerstar Golf, Zoo Tycoon and Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood.

Each Xbox One sold will include Powerstar Golf and Neverwinter Online, free access to Xbox Live Gold through Mar. 2015 and limited edition China Day One Controller.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week began pre-order sales for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Atlus Limited Edition and Atlus Pro Edition SKUs.

The Atlus Limited Edition includes Atlus Digital Content Pack, Atlus Gorge Multiplayer Map, Advanced Soldier Manual, Collectible Steelbook, Official Soundtrack. MSRP $79.99.

The Atlus Pro Edition includes Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Season Pass, Atlus Digital Content Pack, Atlus Gorge Multiplayer Map, Advanced Soldier Manual, Collectible Steelbook, Official Soundtrack. MSRP $119.99.

Activision Blizzard Inc. this week said the Destiny Beta held 4.6 million users in the preview session.

The Destiny Beta began July 17 for the PS4 and PS3, and July 23 for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Respawn Entertainment and EA Inc. this week released the Frontier’s Edge DLC for Titanfall for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the PC.

The second DLC pack includes three new maps (Export, Haven, and Dig Site), multiple tweaks and updates, new Achievements, and an all-new Black Market at $9.99.

Microsoft this month released the Cinematic Trailer for Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One.

The trailer features remastered cut-scenes by Blur Studio.

The title, to be sold Nov. 11, will include Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3 and Halo 4 on a single-disc with 60 frames-per-second, 1080p graphics and sound.

Microsoft Corp. this week said it will release Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero for the Xbox One to the Xbox Live Games with Gold program in Aug.

Both titles will be available to download at no cost for Xbox Live Gold members Aug. 1.

Microsoft this week said P90X is now available in the Xbox Fitness division of the Xbox One.

P90X includes five all-new custom routines and features Kinect support monitor form and function.

In Aug., the program will add a downloadable calendar and nutrition plan.

The 30-day extreme workout program is sold at $59.99.

Sales for Nintendo Co.’s Wii U hardware ranked third in Japan in the latest sales data for the region.

Media Create Co. this month reported that the Wii U sold 9,429 units between July 21 to July 27 to rank at No. 3 in overall sales.

It sold 8,209 units the week prior.


Mario Kart 8 ranked as the No. 3 software title for the week selling 18,129 units for the week.

The Nintendo 3DS ranked as the No. 1 hardware in Japan in the latest sales data from the territory.

Media Create Co. this month said the Nintendo 3DS sold 38,445 units between July 21 and July 27 to rank as the No. 1 game hardware for the week.

The hardware sold 37,377 units the week prior.

It ranked four titles in the top 10, including Yoshi’s New Island at No. 4 which sold 58,285 units at launch.

Nintendo Co. this week recorded a loss in the first quarter amid slow sales of the Wii U console.

For the fiscal quarter ended June 30, the company held a $97 million loss.

It sold 510,000 Wii U consoles in the quarter. The hardware has sold 6.68 million units in global territories to date.

The company maintains a forecast to sell 3.6 million Wii U units this fiscal year.

Nintendo this week said Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U has sold 2.82 million copies worldwide to date.

The title is the fastest-selling Wii U game to date.
