Nintendo Co.’s Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U ranked as the No. 2 best-selling software in June in new U.S. retail sales data.
NPD Group Inc. this week said Mario Kart 8 ranked as the No. 2 best-selling video game software across all platforms.
The title is now the fastest-selling Wii U game to date.
In addition, Wii U hardware sold 140,000 units in June, a 233 percent increase from one year prior.
Mario Kart 8 includes vehicle transformations that allow each kart to race through anti-gravity tracks. The final game will allow users to drive against the wall, paraglide after a jump, and cruise underwater.
New characters include Rosalina, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and all seven Koopalings.
The Mario Kart 8 Wii U Bundle includes the Wii U Deluxe System, Mario Kart 8, Red Mario Wii Wheel Accessory, and Red Mario Wii Remote Plus Controller at $329.99.
