Bungie Inc.’s Destiny for Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4 and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One ranked in the top two sales at GameStop Corp. amid building demand.
This week, the Destiny PS4 SKU ranked as the No. 2 best-selling game title in GameStop.com.
The Xbox One SKU ranked at No. 1 in the same period.
The Destiny Alpha was released in June to allow select users to preview the single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer functionality found in the final game. A total of six million game sessions were played in the Alpha period.
Destiny tells the story of a thriving civilization that has been destroyed. Survivors built a town beneath the old world which has since become filled with deadly foes. Users take the role of a Guardian to reclaim Earth and defeat all enemies.
The title is an online-only first-person shooter that will require a persistent online connection. The massive multiplayer online shooter will include an open-world universe in which users can meet in public zones to meet with other players for co-op action.
Each planet will consist of an entire chapter in the game, with more chapters available as each planet is completed.
The final game will include full character customization, various classes, races, ships that can be customized, and cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
The Playstation 4 500GB Glacier White Destiny Bundle, to be sold Sept. 9, will include a new PS4 500GB White SKU, White Dualshock 4 Controller and a copy of Destiny at $449.99.
