Mojang this week said it will release Minecraft to Sony Corp.’s Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One in Aug.
The Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition and the Xbox One Edition will be sold at $19.99 each via PSN and Xbox Live, respectively. Customers who have purchased the PS3 or Xbox 360 SKUs can upgrade to the PS4 or Xbox One SKU for $4.99.
In addition, users can transfer their PS3 or Xbox One data save to the PS4 or Xbox One version. Cross-platform play will not be available for either SKU.
Developed by 4J Studios, Minecraft is a sandbox simulation title.
It includes a new training mode that guides new users into the crafting process. In addition, a new console-friendly crafting interface allow users to see exactly which materials are needed to craft each item.
In the title, users can craft and build items by chopping world items like trees, rocks, and sand to build an array of tools, fuel, and materials. Tools can be used to craft materials faster, fuel can heat items to form new product or food from the furnace, and materials can be used to build a shelter to keep safe from monsters.
