Nintendo Co. this week said the Super Smash Bros. Invitational in Los Angeles will be open to the public.

Super Smash Bros. LuigiThe event, to be held at the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live June 10, will allow fans to spectate the tournament of 16 previously selected Super Smash Bros. players.

Wristband distribution to attend the event will begin June 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Nokia Plaza at L.A. Live. and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The invitational will begin at 4 p.m.

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U will be sold in late 2014. The Nintendo 3DS SKU will be sold this summer.

New challengers in the title include Greninja, Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Yoshi, and Charizard.

Both titles will include online multiplayer functionality to battle users on their respective platforms. Each SKU will have a distinct set of battle arenas.

Previously announced characters in the final game include Luigi, Princess Peach, Little Mac, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

The 3DS SKU will feature 60 frames-per-second graphics fidelity in stereoscopic 3D. In addition, it will include an exclusive mode called Smash Run which four players have five minutes to explore the dungeon and enter the battle arena with newly acquired items.
