Nintendo Co. this week said it will hold a Digital Event to showcase new and upcoming game titles at the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The company said it will forego a traditional press conference like the year prior and instead use digital avenues to showcase new product directly to consumers.

In addition, it will offer a livestream from the Nintendo Treehouse, the product development department at Nintendo of America, to provide in-depth game demos to consumers.

Finally, it will hold a Super Smash Bros. Invitational at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live to invite 16 participants to battle in front of thousands of fans and a livestream audience.

Nintendo recorded a profit of $99 million in the third quarter.

The Wii U has sold 5.86 million hardware units and 29.37 software units to date. It sold 2.4 million Wii U units in the quarter.

The Nintendo 3DS has sold (to retailers) 42.74 million units and 152.29 software units to date.

The company forecasts a loss of $242 million for the fiscal year ending Mar. 31. In addition, it lowered Wii U annual sales to 2.8 million from nine million.
